1 + 1 = one, past and future

The first 1 + 1 = one event took place in 2001 on the 11-acre farm of Andrea Peterson and Jon Hook. They invited five pairs of artists to create site-specific installation art on their land, which also includes Andrea's papermaking/printing and Jon's wood-fired pottery studios.

It was a great success, and they held 1 + 1 = one again in 2002, again with five pairs of artists. However, the scale of the undertaking convinced them to make 1 + 1 = one biennial.

Between 2002 and 2004, Andrea and Jon met Clifford Peterson of nearby LaPrairie Farm. Just as excited about 1 + 1 = one, Clifford suggested that the event could be held on his nearly 400-acre farm, allowing the event to expand.

1 + 1 = one 2004 doubled in size, with twenty artists creating ten sites.
